Here Are The Features That Instagram Going To Adopt To Protect Teens

Instagram has announced the new features that they are going to adopt very soon to maintain their safety and a safer environment on social media platforms. They are known as the Instagram Safety Measures for teens to maintain their safety.

Facebook-owned Instagram in a blog post revealed the four new features that they are going to adopt which will restrict the adults to interact with the teens.

Now it is necessary for the users to provide their age during signup. But, we know only some peoples are honest about their age. Young peoples are telling lies about their age.

Instagram said that asking age online is complex and not the honest way and they are suffering from this problem too much. They said that with Instagram Safety Measures For Teens they can get the correct age of all and prevent peoples from telling lies about their age on Signup.

Below are some of the Instagram Safety Measures For Teens that Instagram going to adopt for the safety of teens:

Restricting DMs Between Teens and Adults

Restrict Adult Dms

Instagram has added a new feature on their platform with which the adults cannot send messages or DMs to teens under 18 if they don’t follow them. If they do so they will get a notification about the DM option is not available.

Instagram about their Instagram Safety Measures For Teens said that:

“This feature depends on our work to find peoples’ ages using machine learning technology, and the age people give us when they sign up. As we move to end-to-end encryption, we’re investing in features that protect privacy and keep people safe without accessing the content of DMs”

Teaching Teens To Be More Alert

With Instagram Safety Measures For Teens, Instagram will send safety alerts for the adults that they have connected already.

Instagram will also send safety measures when the adult they are already connected has some suspicious activities on Instagram.

Instagram explains this with an example:

“If an adult is sending a large amount of friend or message requests to people under 18, we’ll use this tool to alert the recipients within their DMs and give them an option to end the conversation, or block, report, or restrict the adult. People will start seeing these in some countries this month, and we hope to have them available everywhere soon.”

Making it Difficult for Adults To Find Teens

Instagram will make the chances less to show the teen’s accounts in the suggested users to adults. Instagram said that the adult whose suspicious activities are recorded will not be shown any teen account, reels, etc and the comment section will be automatically hidden to them.

Encouraging Teens To Use Private Account

With the Instagram safety measures for teens, Instagram will encourage the teens to use a private account rather than a public account and if they choose a public account during sign-up then Instagram will send notifications from time to time of the benefits of a private account and to remind them to check the settings.

This does not mean that the teens will not be able to choose the public account option but Instagram will only encourage them to make the account private.

Instagram said that:

“This is just the first step. We’re assessing additional measures we can take to protect young people on Instagram, including additional privacy settings. We’ll have more to share in the coming months”
